About kikuyu

Tucked away about 20km from Kenya’s capital city Nairobi, is Kikuyu town. The town came up as a result of colonial missionaries settlements and is home to the oldest church in East and Central Africa- the 86-year-old Church of the Torch.

Kikuyu constituency, which is one of the twelve (12) administrative units/ sub-counties present in Kiambu County, is divided into 5 wards Kikuyu, Nachu, Kinoo, Karai and Sigona. The area’s current M.P is Hon. Kimani Ichung’wa.

Kikuyu town is the major and largest town in the constituency and the constituency offices are found here.

Owing to its strategic location, proximity to other towns and infrastructural development, the town has grown into an industrial town that boasts many factories that range from the metallic to the medical sector. The town has a blend of city and semi-urban lifestyle, making it possible to access food easily from surrounding farmers, the fresh produce market as well as access other social facilities with ease.

The town is accessible using different routes; Gitaru highway, the Southern Bypass, Dagoretti road as well as Wangige road. A railway station along the Mombasa- Malaba railway line serves the town. Kikuyu is also home to Alliance schools and the infamous Gitaru dam. Most essential is that Ondiri swamp and Kikuyu springs are found here.
