Ubuntu is a Xhosa word and philosophy which translates to “I am because we are”.
Ubuntu Live as the name suggests, is a live poetry and acoustic music show organized monthly by 902 Street and is held in Kikuyu Town. It features artists from within and without Kikuyu and is a platform to showcase local talent within the community. The show is held on Sunday afternoons and is designed to have a holistic and positive inspiration that is ideal for families, friends, couples and people of diverse ages and stages in life.
The first edition of Ubuntu Live was held on February 10th 2019 at the 902 Street Rooftop terrace and featured local poet Wambui also known as Poetic Bee as it main act. The set up was exceptionally done and Crave Kitchen’s bitings from mini sandwiches, samosas, sausage rolls brought the place to life.
The hay stacks and the cool breeze on the rooftop made the place all so magical and the ambience very refreshing. The acts of the day, however, delivered just as they had promised from A Capella, spoken word to poetry.
Ubuntu Live was created with the vision of not only encouraging the consumption of local art and music but by also providing a platform where these artists can showcase their talents and artistic skills. The event hopes to draw people from all parts of the country to the small beautiful town of Kikuyu, and appreciate its beauty, people, culture and take in the fresh air of the vibrant countryside.
The Second edition will be held on March 3 rd 2019 and will feature other amazing talents. Check it out and see you there!
